CHABAZITE    Turner Mine, Marlow, NH
10 mm field of view
Species:           CHABAZITE
Locality:          Turner Mine, Marlow, NH
Specimen Size: 10 mm field of view
Field Collected: Kevin Czaja
Catalog No.: A Kevin Czaja specimen, "6"
Notes: Cluster of blocky chabazite crystals in albite vug.
A close cousin of chabazite, also a zeolite, is gmelinite, (a group, with three "flavors"). Perhaps folklore, from decades ago, had thinking that "chabazite" from Nova Scotia with truncated corners (like closest crystal in this photo) was gmelinite. No idea what the tiny white balls are.

DICKINSONITE    Turner Mine, Marlow, NH
1.2 mm field of view
Species:           DICKINSONITE
Locality:          Turner Mine, Marlow, NH
Specimen Size: 2.5 cm horizontal view
Field Collected: Kevin Czaja
Catalog No.: A Kevin Czaja specimen, "12"
Notes: Massive green candidate dickinsonite. A low count, noisy, EDS analysis suggested dickinsonite is a good candidate, supported by Mn > Fe and possibility that un-quantified peaks are the required Al, Ca and K. The pink mineral is likely triploidite.

DICKINSONITE    Turner Mine, Marlow, NH
9 mm clump of a very likely arrojade group mineral, another candidate dickinsonite.
Species:           DICKINSONITE
Locality:          Turner Mine, Marlow, NH
Specimen Size: 9 mm clump of a very likely arrojade group mineral, another candidate dickinsonite.
Field Collected: Kevin Czaja - 11/8/5
Catalog No.: A Kevin Czaja specimen, "1"
Notes: Another candidate dickinsonite from Kevin. A low count, noisy, EDS analysis indicated an aluminum silicate with a bit of Fe. Since EDS cannot detect lithium, this may be a greenish spodumene.

1.3 mm field of view.

FAIRFIELDITE   Turner Mine, Marlow, NH
1.3 mm field of view.
Species:           FAIRFIELDITE
Locality:          Turner Mine, Marlow, NH
Specimen Size: 1.3 mm field of view. Two photos, different light sources and directions.
Field Collected: Kevin Czaja
Catalog No.: A Kevin Czaja specimen
Notes: A visual identification. Fairfieldite and messelite are visually indistinquishable, however, given the large number of Mn rich phosphate species confirmed at the Turner mine, fairfieldite is the logical choice.

HUREAULITE ?    Turner Mine, Marlow, NH
2 cm specimen
Species:           HUREAULITE ?
Locality:          Turner Mine, Marlow, NH
Specimen Size: 2 cm specimen
Field Collected: Kevin Czaja - 5/8/11
Catalog No.: A Kevin Czaja specimen "3"
Notes: Sample grain of pink mineral taken from tip area of yellow arrow for EDS analysis. Hureaulite is a pre-analysis best guess. Triploidite, previously convirmed at Turner, is another possibility. Reflective area under yellow arrow is mica.
There are some very tiny pink triangular crystals in tiny voids in the pink area, but my experience indicates a satisfactory photo is beyond my capability.
Hureaulite chemistry is: (Mn,Fe)5H2(PO4)4·4H2O .
Triploidite chemistry is: (Mn2+,Fe2+)2(PO4)(OH).
APFU from EDS analysis, BC364_set28, (a low count, noisy one) gave:
(Mn2.3,Fe0.6)Ca0.4P4.0O16.4 normalized for 4 P and
(Mn0.57,Fe0.15)Ca0.1P1.0O4.1 normalized for 1 P
which perhaps fits hureaulite a bit better than triploidite.
