Species: ANDRADITE Locality: Franconia Iron Mine, Sugar Hill, NH Specimen Size: 4.5 cm specimen. Largest andradite crystal is 8 mm Field Collected: Unknown. Purchased on e-Rocks auction from German dealer Roger Lang. Catalog No.: 2051 Notes: Specimen is Ex. A. A. Demour - France. Original label photo included here. Keeping these old labels is very important. I would not have bid on this specimen without the convincing label. The specimen has 1 to 2 mm tufts of fibrous actinolite similar to those on my self-collected specimens #1707 & 1708. See Actinolite gallery [tm] The Franconia Iron Mine (dumps) are the only verified NH locality for andradite garnet. |

Species: QUARTZ Locality: Surprise Pocket, Gilman Notch, Ossipee, NH Specimen Size: 7 cm specimen (vertical) with 1.8 cm scepter smoky quartz crystal Field Collected: Catalog No.: 2055 Notes: Zoom view shows embedded acicular metalic? needles in sceptered crystal. These are just visible in the whole specimen view. [tm] I am uncertain if these embedded needles have been satisfactorily analyzed. A protruding crystal on this specimen will provide a source for analysis.... stand by! The Surprise Pocket yielded hurdreds of pounds of quartz crystal specimens. See article by Herndon & Green Rocks and Minerals Mar./Apr. 2011, pgs 168-173. The bright white mineral in the top photo is feldspar. |
