Species: DRAVITE Locality: Winham Mine, Marlow, NH Specimen Size: 6 mm field of view Field Collected: Tom Mortimer 8/18 Catalog No.: u2215 Notes: Collected from coarse-grained pegmatite boulder. Chemical composition computed from atomic percent EDS analysis (BC304) gave: NaMg0.67Ca0.06K0.06Al5.14Fe0.09Si4.13O44.34 (normalized for one atom of sodium) indicating the magnesium dominant tourmaline species dravite. Yes, the Mg + Ca + K total is low for dravite. |

Species: DRAVITE Locality: Joppa Hill, Amherst, NH Specimen Size: 9 mm brown tourmaline crystal Field Collected: Tom Mortimer - 4/21 Catalog No.: u2493 Notes: From coarse mica boulder in cleared residential construction lot. An EDS analysis (low count, BC358, set 28) indicated a magnesium dominant tourmaline. The EDS software did not tag the Na (1.04 KeV) and Fe (6.40 KeV) peaks. A second (high count, BC350 - set 31) EDS analysis also supported a dravite identification. A moderate Fe (schorl) component was present. |
