Species: ANDALUSITE Locality: Walmart front rock banking, Rt. 11, Rochester, NH Specimen Size: 3.5 cm specimen. Several vertically standing andalusite prisms that are somewhat difficult to make out. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer (Sept. 2010) Catalog No.: 1771 Notes: This actually is a color photograph. There is essentially no contrast between the silver-gray mica schist matrix and the embedded andalusite crystals. |

Species: ANDALUSITE Locality: Road to Iron Mine, Charlestown, NH Specimen Size: 3.5 cm specimen. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: 1516 Notes: A Philip Morrill locality. Charles Jackson, 1844, "Geology and Mineralogy of the State of New Hampshire" page 155, states: the Charlestown, NH staurolite "passes by imperceptable degrees into a hydrous species of andalusite, which often invests the crystals with a pearly crust." This is the appearance of my specimen #1516. |
